The little alien boosted itself, but it didn't stop the ghostly lamps from closing in. The two Chandelures inch closer, and closer, until their flickering faces come within an inch of Gray's, and then...

The lights come on. The ghosts all cheer, backing away and shuffling into two aisles on either side of the Elgyem. From the center of the group emerges a Beheeyem, waving an arm to the side as he helps to shoo the ghosts into their positions. "Go on," it broadcasts into the air, "get into place! Go on, go on!"

When the crowd's dispersed, the larger ayy locks it's eyes on Gray, moving in with a flurry of blinking fingers. "Ooh, so it's you that's causing the fuss. Well, well alright! Hey now, hey now." Once it's close enough, it extends a hand out to the little guy, blinking out a soothing launchpad tone. "Don't worry, friend. You're safe here. These guys are harmless... come on in! Come see the others. Welcome to the Church of Palkiology."

Back up(down)stairs, the Litwick are freaking out at both Gav's threats and his sudden departure. They cry loudly before dashing through the air, taking up on either side of the trainer's head as he descends.

"You can't go down there, buddy!"
"It's not for humans!"
"You're not even a little bit enlightened!"
"Yeah, not even a little bit!"
"Can you pick your own words to say, Na'bloth?"
"Yeah, can you? Wait..."
"Just... !"

One of the candles moves further forward past Gav, puffing up before blowing a little Ember in his direction. "Stop!"

AHHHoh wait what

Gray was just about ready to embrace the abyss, but then the curtains got pulled back, and rugged was yoinked right from under him. Carefully, and with much confusion, the small ayy uncovered his eyes. He was, of course, initially pretty fuckin sketched out by this whole scenario, and even though this whole quest started from Gray wanting to talk to other aliens, he seemed none-too-enthused to engage here.

.....but then the Beheeyem started the blinky-blonks. Man, Gray was a real sucker for the blinks. His eyes grew wide as he slowly clamored back to his feet, letting off a few blinks of his own. While Gray's blinking was....weird, it gave the impression that he was quite thankful, but he seemed to be asking 'what was all that?'

Meanwhile, Gav was still booking it down the stairs. However, these ghosties were surprisingly quick to pull ahead, and one even spat out a gout of flame at the Gavvo on a mission. He halted for a second, skidding to a halt as he brought his arm up to guard his face. Luckily, he managed to avoid a nice face-burning, although it did end up singing his sleeve.

The Ember didn't stop him for much more than a second, though, and he reached out and attempted to sweep the ghost off to the side with his arm.

Blink blonk. The Beheeyem seems perfectly capable of blinking out his response, but keeps on using that oh-so-convenient humanspeak. "Ah, forgive me. The ghosts are a precautionary measure we use to keep the humans out of the basement. Did you know humans are actually terrified of ghosts? It's ridiculous. They're completely harmless."

With one orb-ish hand behind Gray, the evolved mon moves forward, pushing his compatriot to move with him. "You see, this place is very special. We with the Church of Palkiology have turned this area into our place of worship and study, where we can uncover the mysteries of the world in a secure environment. It may sound strange at first, but..."

A set of double doors suddenly appear from the wall in front of the two, and the Beheeyem swings his other arm, opening them up slowly. On the other side sits a large stone room, littered with bookshelves and tables and dozens of other strange items that look old and vaguely scientific. A large number of other Elgyem and Beheeyem float around with trains of books behind them, buzzing and blinking in a strange, alien cacophony.

"It is where our kind belongs. Please, enter."

The ghost on Gav's side is easily brushed away, flying back with a little yell as he collides with his chasing partner. The staircase eventually begins to open up further, the light from the bottom glowing faintly. AS Gavin get closer though, a much larger fire suddenly blocks his path, wall-to-wall blue flames closing off the bottom of the stairs. A Chandelure grins from the inside of the blaze, advancing slowly towards the human.

Meet the Mini Boss.

Harmless? Okay, buddy, whatever you say, but all that fuckin spookery wasn't appreciated, not in the least bit. Once the Beheeyem pulled that precaution shit, Gray's blinkies began to flash rapidly, giving off the impression (in Gray's city-slicker blink accent) that he was not happy. However, he settled down pretty quickly, and listened intently to what Head Ayy had to say. At the same time, he was sticking very close, seemingly trying to grab onto either the Behee's hand or 'coat tail' for security.

All that church stuff mostly flew over Gray's head, but once those doors opened, Gray's eyes grew to the size of dinner plates. As he stepped forward, he brought his hands to the sides of his face, looking from side to side at the alien commune going on. All this blinking! All these ayys!

Almost enough to bring tears to Gray's eyes. His blinks and blonks grew frantic, as if he was speaking extremely fast. Seems the boy's getting overstimulated.

While Gray was having a surprisingly better time than expected, Gav was having a surprisingly worse time than expected. Some weird shit was going on with the bottom of the staircase, which Gavin assumed meant he was getting closer, so he continued to hoof it down the stairs. No weird ghost shit was going to keep him away from Gray, god damn it!

...though this Chandelure was probably going to cause a slight delay. As the chandelier thrust itself into existence, the fire behind it let Gavin know that he wasn't gonna be able to just swooce around it.

Man. What a headache. As Gavin pulled a Safari Ball from his pocket, he glared at the Chandelure, and coolly and quietly remarked, "I'm assuming you're not going to move if I ask you to."

"Yes, I know. It's a magnificent sight, isn't it? Hey hey," the Beheeyem says as he pats Gray on the back, "don't just stand there blinking away. Let's take the grand tour, my little initiate."

Pushing the little guy along, the Beheeyem motions around the room, blinking out quick messages to the other aliens that fly by. "This is what we call the 'Grand Foyer'. It is the hub of all our study, and where we research life's greatest mystery. Our Brothers and Acolytes spend a lot of time in here, reading through old tomes of wonder in the search for divinity. Though... that's still above your Expression Level. We'll get you there."

Another door looms at the back of the library expanse, a large circle carved into it's face in strange symbols. That seems to be where the head honcho is leading Gray.

"By the way... you can call me Zoltar. High Officiator Zoltar."

Your assumption would be pretty spot-on Gavboy, because as soon as the big ghost spots the ball in the trainer's hands it flares up in retaliation, tilting it's entire body forward as a purplish-blue gout of flame shoots out. The two Litwick from before have seemed to catch up, cheering the Chandelure on.

"Yeah, get him!"
"Get him!"
"Don't let him pass!"
"Don't let him pass!"
"Na'bloth is a big baby!"
"Na'bloth is a big b- heeeeey!"
"You fucking idiot."
